Interactive Collaboration Painting
2020
Any scientific or art object in a museum is more than an artifact; it is a story and an interaction. How can users interact and learn from the artifacts? Can we change how they even see the objects? In this interface design, we sought to alter the way a user directly perceives and experiences art. We accomplished this by enhancing the work of the Augmented Reality System. We created a simulation of the full-body AR painting techniques. Using our AR tool users became artists creating their own AR digital paintings. In an experiment, we demonstrated that their experience as artists creating digital paintings literally altered the ways users saw and experienced other paintings in the museum. Their experience with our tool for full-body digital art literally altered the ways museum visitors see artworks and increased their aesthetic experience compared to control users. Users also eported great learning about art and artists and a desire to experience more art.

Design and Play with a Friend in Collaborative Augmented Reality
M.I.N.D. Lab present a demonstration of collaborative augmented reality. Two participants can enter the collaborative augmented reality environment to create a 3D painting with a friend, tour and rotate strange designs, while accompanied by HOLLY a 6 ft virtual “robot” assistant. Spectators “outside” will also be able to enter the virtual environment via Skype telepresence “window”.
